pro-rUW to FAMED NEGRO RUNNER, HERE To Aid In Colored Fourth Of July Celebration Jesse Owens, world's champion runner and lftJ6 Olympics winner, will be tlte feature attraction for the negro celebration of Independence Day at Gordy Park in the late afternoon and evening. The colored athlete is coming here next Tuesday under auspices of the Independent Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, through a personal arrangement with Owens by James F. Stewart, grand traveling deputy of the order for the eastern states. Owens will give a demonstration of his running ability at 7:30 P. M. and will supervise relay races. All colored youths desiring to enter these races should send their applications to Stewart Prizes will be given the winners. The colored Elks lodge is stag. ing the events for colored people of the peninsula. A twilight baseball game will be played between the colored team of Wilmington, Del., and the Phillips Delicious colored team of Cambridge immediately after the regular Eastern Shore League game is played at the park. In the evening a colored team from Onan-cock, Va., will play a negro team from Pocomoke.
